Solution to M: Act 3 Meta
Upon completion of each Act 3 puzzle, you are presented with one of the following images:
Each image file is named red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet, respectively. All these colours are the colours of the rainbow, and upon submitting "rainbow" as an answer, you get a message that says "Right idea, wrong box". This suggests entering "rainbow" into the url, and upon doing so (ie typing in quest.skule.ca/act3/rainbow into the address box of your browser) you are redirected to a page titled "Recipe for Success", and can download a .docx file titled "recipe".
The contents of the recipe.docx are as follows:
1 = Red
2 = Orange
3 = Yellow
4 = Green
5 = Blue
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = Purple
1 + 2 + 3 + 5 = Black
1 + 2 = Grey
3 + 5 = Light Blue
3 + 4 + 5 = Pink
1 + 2 + 4 + 5 = Light Green
1 + 5 = Brown
1 + 2 + 5 = Red Red
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = Orange Orange
1 + 3 + 4 = Yellow Yellow
1 + 3 + 4 + 5 = Green Green
2 + 3 + 4 = Blue Blue
3 + 4 = Purple Purple
2 + 3 = Black Black
1 + 2 + 3 = Grey Grey
2 + 4 = Light Blue Light Blue
1 + 3 + 5 = Pink Pink
2 + 3 + 5 = Light Green Light Green
The next step of the puzzle is to notice that all the colours in the recipe correspond to the colours of the lines in the images (with double colours meaning double lines). Each line now can be associated with a group of numbers, as dictated by the recipe. For example, a red line is associated with "1", whereas a double pink line is associated with "1, 3, and 5".
Knowing this, the next step is to deconstruct each image. This is done by grouping each line according to the number they're associated with. Let's use one of the images as an example:
In the image above, the lines associated with "1" are grey and double grey lines. If we erase all the other lines from the image, we get the following image that looks like an "L":
Now, going back to the original image, the lines associated with "2" are grey, double grey, double black, and orange lines. If we erase all the other lines, we get the following image that looks like a "U":
Repeat the same step for "3", "4", and "5". For this image, you should get an image that looks like an "S" for "3", "T" for "4", and nothing for "5". Putting all the images together in the order from 1 to 5, you will get the word "LUST" for this image.
Following the same steps for all six images, you get "PRIDE", "GREED”, "LUST", "ENVY", "WRATH", and "SLOTH", respectively. These are seven deadly sins, with just "GLUTTONY" missing.
Now, refer to the given poem for the meta. The main parts of the poem you should note are beings with crowns, seats with crests, and the hall of no salvation. These collectively refer to the 7 Princes of Hell. Each one of these princes has one of the seven deadly sins (hence the line 'a crest to mark their seat' - the given images are these princes' crests!) associated with them, and the missing prince is the prince associated with gluttony.
The name of the prince of hell associated with gluttony is "BEELZEBUB", which is the answer to the Act 3 meta.
