Solution to 5: Scrambled Page

    The flavour text suggests that the words we are looking for are in the wrong language. The sequential squiggles hint at East Asian languages. However, it's still unclear as to which ones they are referring to. Another hint given is the red ___ and blue ___. These refer to the Red Sea (C) and blue jay (J), suggesting Chinese and Japanese (not an easy hint to get, admittedly). Some of the crossword clues also suggest that these two are the languages used.

    1. 6th Heavenly Stem (reversed) - from the Chinese ordinal system originating in the Shang Dynasty
    2. Ro|bot - Japanese katakana character "ro"
    3. "Ow" - reversed Japanese katakana character "wo"
    4. Te - Japanese hiragana character "te", also the pronunciation of 手 (hand) in Japanese
    5. Mountain
    6. (Archaic) To fly rapidly

    8. Yo (reversed) - Japanese katakana character "yo"

    Now, reversing the 3 characters as hinted, the characters look similar to actual english letters, and spell out the word software.
